New Years Resolution #1 – Day Tripping

sf day tripOne of my New Year’s Commitments to myself (and my family) is to spend more time exploring where we live.  Northern California is a beautiful place that we are fortunate to call home.  In this series I will be sharing our adventures as we set out to spend more time day tripping around the bay and beyond.

Our first stop was one of my favorite neighborhoods in San Francisco, Potrero Hill.  Easily accessed from the south, mostly sunny, and perched high above the city, this neighborhood has wonderful food and small shops.  We had brunch at Plow, a favorite spot of ours, and browsed the charming bookstore, Christopher Books.

Next stop was Dolores Park.  This park has been one of my favorites in San Francisco since I first moved here in 1995.  It wasn’t always the park and playground it is today, but since the new playground opened almost 2 years ago it’s been a family favorite each time we are in that part of the city.  The Helen Diller playground at Dolores park is tons of fun for all ages of kids.  The slides are what my kids go for, spending hours going up and down again and again til the sun starts to fade.

The expanse of grass and the views are what I can never get enough of at Dolores Park.  If you make the climb up to the top of the hill, you won’t be disappointed.

I was really craving some time by the water and wanted to head over to the bay before the sun went down.  One of the best spots for Golden Gate sunset photos is Crissy Field and Beach.  We walked and walked together, stealing snuggles and drawing in the sand.  It was the perfect end to a day of rambling through the city with absolutely no agenda.
