Each year at this time, even here in California, the garden is looking a little bleak. The lawn is brownish after weeks of below freezing over night temps and the trees look sad and bare. But one lucky day at the end of January or the beginning of February I spy the very 1st sign of Spring.
And there it is, Hardenbergia, also called Happy Wanderer. The prettiest spikes of purple you’ll ever see. They peek out from their vines along my back and side fence as if to remind me, “yes, Spring will come again.” And even though this vine is not much to look at the rest of the year, it is the prize in my garden today. Thank you Happy Wanderer for brightening up my Winter.
