There is so much to do and see in every city. San Francisco is no different. It’s unique geography on the tip of the San Francsico Bay means many of the best things to do revolve around the water. Historically, the bay has been an integral part of San Francisco becoming the city it is today.
If I had two days in San Francisco, what would your recommend? That’s the most asked question. My answers are wide and varied. Depending on how active you want to be, whether or not you are an art or history buff and if you are interested in getting outside of the city to see some of the nearby sites. Here are some of our favorite things to do in the city by the bay that don’t involve Fisherman’s Wharf.
Ferry Building – Local farm fresh food, farmer’s market and ferry terminal
Rent bikes in Golden Gate Park – Picnics, art, music, flowers, history
Filbert Street Steps – Secluded steps + local knowledge lead you to Coit Tower
Afternoon Tea – The Palace Hotel High Tea tradition dates back to the early 1900’s
Walk the Golden Gate Bridge – walk or bike the bridge for endless views of the bay.
SF Giants Game – Catch a game watching World Series Champs at the beautiful AT&T park.
Local tips for riding Cable Cars: You do not need to wait in the long queues at the turntables at the end of the lines. Most tourists wait at Hyde St. or Market St. to board the Powell St. line cable cars. You may board a cable car anywhere along the route you see a sign and pay on board. The operators prefer exact change for your fare, kids 4 and under are free and they may pass you up if the cable car is too full and you have a stroller, but another one will be by shortly. And don’t forget about the California St. Line, it doesn’t go to fisherman’s wharf, but it has beautiful views from the top of Nob Hill into the Financial District.
