When people come to San Francisco, they always want to know where to go to find unique or locally made items. They also want to hear about the smaller independent stores that may carry larger brands, but aren’t the big flagship or department store options. Well, you’ve come to the right place. San Francisco is full of distinctive independently owned shops waiting to be discovered.
Below of are few of my favorites in various parts of town, each shop and neighborhood they are located is unique in itself. Pair it with my post of where to eat + drink or what to do in SF for the perfect afternoon exploring the city. There is certain to be a delicious coffee and sweet treat or an organic crafted cocktail not far from any of these fun spots to shop!
Hudson Grace – Beautiful housewares on charming Sacramento Street
Heidi Says – A trio of stores featuring women’s clothing, shoes, and accessories on Fillmore Street
The Ark – A favorite toy store that really looks like the inside of The Ark!
Unionmade – Well curated collection of men’s clothing + accessories on the Castro/Mission border
Mill Mercantile – Sister store to Unionmade with equally well curated women’s clothing + accessories plus gorgeous home goods + products you’ll love in Noe Valley
Green Apple Books – THE best bookstore in SF for new + used books in the Inner Richmond
Maker + Moss – I would actually consider moving into this store, in Hayes Valley of course where everything tasty + pretty has come to live in the past 10 years.
