Dinner for 40

a bowl full of simple

For the past two weeks, I’ve been in a perpetual state of tears over the passing our family’s best dog.  I have been so grateful for all the emails, texts, phone calls, notes, gifts, and hugs!  I have been reminded of what it means to live in a great community and how fortunate our family is to be surrounded by thoughtful caring people.

It is for that same reason, I am still thinking about what a wonderful night we had celebrating my sweet friend’s 40th two weeks ago.  These photos do not even begin to show how beautiful the whole evening was for all.  From the table to the dinner to the appetizers and dessert bar, simplicity was the cornerstone to pulling off this amazing night.  Myself and 3 dear friends came together to honor our lovely friend and the friendships of 43 women.

When entertaining this size of a gathering the words ‘keeping it simple’ have never been so important.  Our bar was champagne, our birthday girl’s drink of choice of course and wine.  We served two appetizers, one store bought and one homemade.  The dinner consisted of two salads, one prepared ahead of time pasta, and the simplest lemon chicken.  Dessert was a beautiful simple chocolate bar with a fun variety of chocolate candies, pastries, and cake.

None of us are by any means caterers.  Each of us are mothers and have jobs so a mid-week party had to be planned out and prepared in advance as much as possible.  With careful planning and each of us taking on a piece of the party, it all came together magically.
