Today we are sharing where to go in San Francisco. Unlike many other large cities, it is easy to escape the hustle and business of urban life. Within minutes you can find yourself on a trail with no cars or people in sight. Some of our very favorite things in San Francisco are on the quieter outskirts, some are in the heart of it all, and if you have a car, you can get to amazing places just a few minutes over the bridge or out of the city too.
Ocean Beach – The expansive Ocean Beach runs from the NW corner of the city along The Great Highway to the SW corner at the zoo. Take a picnic, go for a long walk, hide in the dunes, and hunt for sand dollars.
De Young Museum – In the heart of Golden Gate Park and across from the Academy of Sciences, you won’t want to miss this collection even if you only visit the Hamon Observation Tower (it’s free) for the views. Afterwards get lost (a little) on any of the hidden paths throughout the gorgeous Golden Gate Park.
Muir Woods – A short drive over the Golden Gate Bridge and along the breathtaking coast you will find yourself amongst some of the oldest and tallest redwood trees in California. You can take a short walk through Cathedral Grove or the more adventurous can hike all the way to Stinson Beach.
Ferry to Angel Island State Park – hike or bike one of California’s most scenic State Parks.
Baker Beach – A great outing no matter the weather with sweeping views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Marin Headlands.
Crissy Field – Miles of beaches and walking trails along the bay as part of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy on the edge of The Presidio.
Dolores Park – The SF park with the best views of downtown and the best slides in the city!
San Francisco’s outdoor lifestyle is the epitome of California living. There is so much to see and do in San Francisco that true locals enjoy and may not be in your typical guidebook. Put your walking shoes on and head to any one of these natural beauties for a day to remember.
