Todos Santos
We had been hearing talk about Todos Santos for the previous 5 years or so. It was slowly becoming a spot for Californians in the know to slip away for a quick escape from life in Los Angeles or San Francisco. Property development has grown, boutique hotels are popping up and small cafes and restaurants are becoming more popular. Even though growth has hit this tiny colonial town on the pacific coast of Baja California Sur, it still remains a special place with a casual vibe that lures visitors year round.
For me, any town with colorful flags draping the streets creating such a welcoming feeling is a hit with me. We loved walking the streets of town, ducking into boutiques and galleries and eating some of the very best Mexican food.
We found an art gallery next to our hotel I still regret not purchasing a beautiful painting from. I need to get over my travel light obsession so I can be prepared to bring home found art and housewares more easily! I hate when I find something when traveling then think “Oh never mind,” when really it makes me so happy to bring home bits of travel to add to our home.
We had heard that a non-profit organization that helps restore the sea turtle population in the Pacific allows the public to watch their release during the winter months. A quick google search led us to Tortugueros Las Playitas. They release the baby turtles every night at 5pm during the winter and early spring months. Definitely worth a stop to see the wonderful work they are doing here.
The food scene in Todos Santos is growing every day. We had wonderful meals at our hotel, Casa Tota, Cafe Todos Santos, Cafe Santa Fe and the grill on the sand at Cerritos beach.
A friend that has a home in Todos Santos also recommends:
- Taller 17 – fresh baked goods
- Derek’s – sushi
- La Bahia – fresh fish and seafood
- Pizza Nostra – Italian
- Miguel’s – Mexican, of course!
