One of the many fun adventures we had while in Costa Rica was the quintessential Zip Line trip. We were recommended Safari Adventures by our hotel concierge. They picked us up from our hotel and drove us out to their property about an hour from where we were staying. The drive itself was all part of the fun as we found ourselves cruising through a palm forest which lead to a river that we drove through to reach the forest on the other side. One of the highlights was watching my 11 year old thrill by it all while I wondered what in the heck we had gotten ourselves into as we drove across a one lane wooden bridge with only a few planks and no railings. I was literally like “oh, my god!”
We arrived at their location and were greeted by the very friendly staff of guides and our personal photographer. They got us all suited up, gave us a very brief, by U.S. standards, instructional chat and we were on our way through the 11 zips across, through and above the rainforest. What we didn’t realize was that these would be the highest zip lines any of us have ever been on before, breathtaking to be sure.
The guides were safe and fun. The zips were well built as well. My youngest (5) went with a guide each time because she wasn’t heavy enough to make it across the very long rides alone. One of the zips was so long we literally could not see the end of it. It was also the highest, well above the canopy which terrified me when I stopped to look around about halfway across. At the end of the trails, we had one last surprise with a rappel into a pool below a waterfall which was as gorgeous as it was refreshing. Upon returning we were treated to a small costa rican meal of chicken and veggie rice, fruit, tortillas and an icy cold costa rica sweet tea.
If you are in the Quepos area, I highly recommend taking this tour, our family had a blast!
