Greek Yogurt

As I pulled out my tub of greek yogurt for the third time yesterday, I realized just how much I love this product. Greek yogurt is so rich and creamy. It actually seems decadent yet it is so much more nutritionally complete than it’s traditional cousin.

In just 6 oz., greek yogurt packs in 18 grams of protein while maintaining a low calorie count of only 100 calories! With all the pre-packaged snacks out there declaring how healthy they are because they contain just 100 calories. What’s really in there? – NOTHING – Little to no protein or vitamins.

I started thinking about all the different ways I use greek yogurt. Of course it’s perfect simply in a bowl with berries, but did you know you can use greek yogurt almost any way you currently use 1/2 + 1/2, cream, mayo, sour cream, creme fraiche, or even milk? In the morning, I love a big scoop of it in my oatmeal. It makes the oatmeal so creamy while adding another dose of protein to start my day. In the afternoon, I scoop a heap of it in fruit smoothies for my kids. For dinner last night, I found myself using it again in an avocado sauce for dipping kebabs.

Here are some more variations you may want to try:
yogurt snack
berries
pineapple – fav!
granola
museli
nuts + honey

breakfast
a dollop on top of – pancakes, waffles, french toast, or oatmeal
in scrambled eggs
in a breakfast smoothie
in baked goods in place of cream or milk

savory
dips, sauces, dressings
added to soups to puree
topping for soups and chili
taco, fajita, burrito topping
added to warm pasta for a creamy texture without the cream
on a baked potato

Something so simple yet has tons of possibilities.
Have yourself some Greek yogurt today! Your body will thank you!
