Big Sur, California

Have you ever done this? We recently had the most spontaneous fun adventure!  We booked a reservation at 10am and were on the road by lunchtime.  This getaway took us down the gorgeous infamous highway 1 along the central coast of California.  After winding through the forested Santa Cruz mountains, we met up with the coast highway near Santa Cruz, CA.  From there we traveled south along the water’s edge of Monterey Bay through Carmel and onward to the most breathtaking part of California’s coastline, Big Sur.  We had no known agenda.  Our lodging was waiting for us whenever we should choose to arrive.  Beyond that we ooh-ed and aah-ed, stopped when we wanted to snap some photos or get out to see the cliffs up close.  It was a terrific way to spend the afternoon and another day sharing with our kids our love and affection for the grandeur of nature.   We spent the next two days hiking & playing at the beach, allured by nature’s expanse and convinced there isn’t anything sand between my toes and salt air on my face can’t cure.
