How Often Do You Wash Your Hair?

a bowl full of simple

I knew that question would get your attention.  What’s your routine? Are you an every day girl? Every other? Could you ever go 3 days?

Several years ago a hairdresser recommended I stop washing my hair every day.  I was sure I’d look like a greasy mess.  So I went to my most trusted source, my girl friends.  I asked a few how often they washed their hair.  Most said every day, a few said every other.

Well, I have a confession to make….I only wash my hair twice a week.  Are you thinking I’m gross.  Think again. My hair is healthier, fuller, has more shine AND my (ahem) color last longer than ever before. {I suppose that was two confessions.  But hey, when you are 40, you’d be hard pressed to find a brunette that doesn’t color her hair!}

This topic comes up all the time with girl friends now.  I really think the trick is getting over the hump.  Give it 2-3 weeks.  I truly believe that washing your hair less frequently will give you more volume and shine.  Of course not every one can go 3-4 days.  Some people have drier hair follicles than others, those gals can go longer.  Try it! Let me know what your results are!

Here are the products that I swear by to help make it possible.  They are pricey, but when you only use them 2x/week they last for months.

  1. My trick to getting away with not washing my hair every day is using Ojon Rub-Out Dry Cleansing Powder (I buy it at Sephora). And it actually adds body and smells wonderful. My 10 year old daughter uses it on occasion, too.
