An Eastern Sierra Road Trip to Rock Creek Lake
Adventuring along on our Eastern Sierra Road Trip – Day 2 brought us to Rock Creek Lake and Rock Creek. We set out with the goal of catching some fish, but were completely shut out. This is apparently not typical for the area – clearly some user error involved, but a fantastic day nonetheless.
Fishing at Rock Creek Lake
We haven’t done much fishing as a family, but my dad and younger brothers love to fish. We took them up on the offer to show our family how it’s done. My brother was definitely in his element and was super patient with my kids. He gave them each a buff to wear and taught them how to apply the bait and cast a line.
Dogs were permitted here at Rock Creek Lake. Though I must admit, we didn’t make many friends with the other fishermen for bringing a water dog along with us. There was no way I could not let him have his fun too. Water is his favorite place anywhere.
Rock Creek is just as gorgeous as the lake where we were fishing from the shore. Hiking down into Rock Creek, my brother pulled out the fly fishing gear and set off into the creek. While the kids meandered over the boulders, I took advantage of the sound of the creek and the peace of it all.

If you make a trip to Rock Creek Lake, be sure to stop in at Tom’s Place. My dad introduced us to this old time place. Celebrating 100 years, Tom’s Place Cafe has a classic menu that hasn’t likely changed in several decades and is perfect just the way it is.
